Ruby Pearl
Human: Lara W. Ruby Pearl is my recently-adopted one-year-old Border-Collie/Jack Russell mix. About a month before I adopted her (and before I lost my two old dogs and was not planning to get a dog any time soon), I was reading the book Helter Skelter written by the prosecuting attorney for the Manson case. He described interviewing a witness at the ranch where the Manson Family hid out - a tough, seasoned horse wrangler named Ruby Pearl. Despite the dark tone of the book, sh

Arfur & Vito
Human: Beth H. We have two rescued Basset Hounds. The first, Arfur T. Leadbottom has a heavy butt and does not jump well. He also has a big mouth - hence ARF-ur. We changed it from Arthur. Our other guy was found wandering the streets of Brooklyn as a little pup. His name: Don "Vito" Barkeleone. We call him Vito. Turns out he's part dachshund and part bloodhound. He has a formidable nose. He also bosses his older, larger brother. #dogs #dognames #cutedogpics #foodnames #doggi

Baba Ghanoush
Human: Eva M. My newest addition is a rescue pup that we named Baba Ghanoush. We call her Noushy for short. She’s a 6-month-old Mini Poodle/Havanese. My partner has always wanted a dog named Baba Ghanoush, and we adopted this girl on Christmas Eve this year. #dogs #dognames #cutedogpics #foodnames #doggienames #dogpictures #cutedogs #dogname #dog #puppynames #pupnameprofiles

Sid
Human: Jennifer S. Here's a picture of my eight year old Cairn Terrier, Sid. I brought him home when he was six months old, and couldn't decide on a name that fit. One day, a few of my nieces were sitting in the kitchen with me, and I asked them for some ideas. Among all the suggestions, my one niece was looking at a box of Rice Krispies. Ice Age the movie had just come out at that time, and a cartoon of the characters was on the box. She yells out, "Sid the Sloth!" And there

Darby
Human: Rick & Kristy S. When we first got married, all we wanted was a puppy. I had always had Australian Cattle dogs growing up, so when we finally picked out our new family member, we started brainstorming what to name her. Since the breed originated in Australia, we got the map out and pretty much searched for names. When I saw the name Darby for a town, I knew that had to be her name, for so many reasons. First, because I loved the sound of it. Also, my husband and I are

Mariah
Human: Jilian G. and Bob P. We named our rescued retired racing greyhound Mariah (her racing name was RJC's Oklahoma). We thought the song "They Call the Wind Mariah" was from the musical Oklahoma!, which seemed fitting as she is as fast as the wind, and it tied into her racing name. However, the song is from Paint Your Wagon. Oh, well. Close enough. She's also black, and Black Mariah is another name for a hearse. A rather unfortunate coincidence. She is everything a retired

Kavik & Trax
Human: Aine C. Shortly after Ludwig passed away, we visited a shelter and came home with a pair of brothers. They are large poms ("throwback") or possibly kleinspitz. We kept their original names, Kavik and Trax. There is a book titled Kavik the Wolf Dog. Kavik has sable coloring, and half of one eye is blue, so he is slightly more wolf-looking. Kavik is a year older than Trax. #dogs #dognames #cutedogpics #doggienames #dogpictures #cutedogs #dogname #dog #puppynames #pupname

Foxxi April & Ludwig Von Happy
Human: Aine C. First, Foxxi April was our rescued corgi. We kept her original name, but added a middle name for the month she was adopted. After Foxxi passed, we adopted a Pomeranian who never had a proper name. … The shelter called him "Happy," so we renamed him Ludwig von Happy. (His eye loss happened after we adopted him.) Ludwig passed away one year ago. #dogs #dognames #cutedogpics #doggienames #dogpictures #cutedogs #dogname #dog #puppynames #pupnameprofiles

Oscar to Skittles
Human: Jill G. I have seven dachshunds. They're my babies. Oscar, Age 10 -- He's a friendly dog who loves people. Buddy, Age 5 -- Buddy is a big skittish, doesn't like storms and fireworks, but a very well-behaved pooch who loves his human mommy. Marley, Age 4 -- She's a bossy boots, but a lovely dog. Jake, Age 3 -- A pup from Marley and Buddy. He's a little timid, but also loving, doesn't like storms and fireworks. Dax, Age 3 -- We rescued Dax at 5 months old from a lady who

Spunky
Human: Madeline M. Spunky was a stray living in a field for 8 months in Fresno, CA. ... The shelter that took her in named her Sissy. I thought it really didn't fit a dog that had been surviving on her own for that long. Spunky seemed to fit better. And she is living up to her name. She can be quite a handful. Loves to run and play with other dogs but can be quite bossy. And loves to chase anything that runs, squirrels, rabbits, cats, etc. #dogs #dognames #cutedogpics #doggie
