Scotia got her name from her breed, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. We tried a bunch of other names for Scotia, mostly Gaelic like Pirry, Caeleigh, etc. But she only answered to Scotia. Phèdre got her name from a book character because she is the sweetest, most submissive dog ever, but managed to survive on the streets for several years, and in the book we named her out of is the saying: that which yields is not always weak.
